On peut hésiter entre envoyer nos BIGeurs au sommet du Mont Vitsi ou les arrêter au splendide village de Nymfeo ou peut-être un rien plus haut à la station de ski appelée Vitsi-Verno. Comme nous avons une autre station dan le même massif, nous choisirons plus rapidement le village de Nymfeo comme sommet, mais bien sûr, s'il s'avère correct que les frères Jacquemin et Etienne Mayeur ont su atteindre le sommet du mont il y a dix ans en sachant que c'est un très bon muletier (en zone militaire ??) qui y mène, on choisirait alors le sommet du mont comme BIG. Ce serait alors le seul muletier du pays. la station de ski est à seulement 22km de la ville de Kastoria sur une route bien entretenue et complètement asphaltée par la préfecture de Kastoria. La station est située dans le massif du Vernon et sur les pentes du Mont Vitsi, d'où son nom de Vitsi-Vernon. La route vers la station est asphaltée et on y trouve un chalet, un restaurant, une cafetaria, un bar pour skieurs et un vaste parking. Le centre a été fondé en 1979. La route pour Nymfeo serait deux kilomètres plus courtes et pour le mont Vitsi 8 km plus longue avec certainement 6km de muletier.

One can hesitate between sending the BIGers to the top of Mount Vitsi or to stop them at the splendid village of Nymfeo or perhaps a little upper in the station ski resort called Vitsi-Verno. Having another ski resort in the same massive, man will choose the village Nymfeo as the top wanted, but of course, if it's possible like Etienne Mayeur and the Jacquemin brothers did ten years ago, man will choose the real top of Mount Vitsi at 2128m as the top, knowing that there is a good gravel road (perhaps military area ??) leading to the top. It would be the lonely gravel road of the country. The ski center is only 22 km. away from Kastoria town and has an asphalt, safe road, that is daily cleaned by snow-ploughs operated by the Kastoria Prefectural Authority. The Vitsi ski center is situated on mount Vitsi (Vernon), in the Kastoria area of Oxia, 22km away from the town. The road to the centre is asphalt, safe and gets opened when snow falls are heavy. There's a chalet, a restaurant, a cafeteria, a Snow bar and a spacious parking lot. The centre was founded in 1979. The road to Nymfeo would be then two kilometers shorter and to the mount Vitsi 8 km longer with surely six kilometers of gravel road.

D'après beaucoup de sites internet, le village qui sert de base à la station de ski est après le village de Nymphaeo (ou Nymfaeo), soit une approche par le sud-ouest. Etienne Mayeur et les frères Jacquemin auraient atteint le sommet du Mont Vitsi , d'apparence militaire, il y a dix ans mais par une approche nord-est en passant par Drossapigi.

According to plenty of websites, the village down the ski resort, called Nymfeo (or Nymphaeo), would be a good approch coming east-south. Etienne Mayeur and the Jacquemin brothers would have reached the top of the mount through the road passing in the east-north by Drossapigi.

Vitsi est le nom du mont, Verno est le nom de la chaîne de montagne. Verno apparait sur certaines cartes comme Varnou, Vernou ou Varnous (on a appelé le BIG comme cela précédemment !) . Le nom grec βιτσι ?Sa traduction : Vitsi ? La station du nom de Vitsi-Verno ? Vitsi-ski center, si on anglicise tout ? Verno ski resort si on se fie à l'intitulé des cartes Anavasi. Nympheo ou Nymphaeo ou Nymphaio ou Nymfeo ?

Vitsi is the name of the mount. Verno is the name of the massive. verno appears on certain maps as Varnou, Vernous or Varnous (Varnous was the previous BIG's name). The greek name βιτσι ? Its translationVitsi ? The station ski-resort called Vitsi-Verno ? Vitsi ski center if we anglicise everything ? verno ski resort if we read the maps Anavasi. Nympheo or Nymphaeo or Mynphaio or Nymfeo ?

La station si on vient du sud-ouest n'est autre que le prolongement de la première partie qu'on appelle Stena Klissouras, avec deux villages Stena et Klisoura près du premier plateau. Vous verrez qu'on a fini par privilégier l'élimination de ce Stena Klissouras.

The station coming from the west-south is just the end of the road passing by a lower plateau called by us Stena Klissouras, with the two names of the villages Stena and Klissoura. You'll see that we have finished by choosing to delete this Stena Klissouras.

Parce qu'elle fait partie de la liste depuis le début (seule avec Metsovon en son temps) et qu'elle semble être supérieure à ses voisines, tant du point de vue ascension que du point de vue touristique si on se réfère aux sites architecturaux du village de Nymphaeo. CONSERVEE et pour redorer le caractère touristique de la liste grecque, on arrêterait le grimpeur à Nympheo (ou Nymphaio, ou Nymfeo selon les traductions) ou pour avoir un plus de 2.000 on monterait en muletier au Vitsi!

According to the fact that this one is included in the listing of 1.000 since the beginning of the challenge (with Metsovon at this time) and that it seems superior than its neighbours, touristitically and in difficulty, according to the architectural interest of Nympheo and to its landscapes, too ; we'll keep it. That would be very interesting to increase the touristic interest of the greek listing if we stop it at Nymfeo (or Nymphaio,... according to the different translations) or to have a "more than 2.000" in the listing, we'll climb to the gravelled Vitsi !
