Islande - Iceland

To go to Iceland doesn't mean to be ready to ride on good continental surfaces :one has to know it. To show really what Iceland looks like, pushes us to keep some gravel roads in the selection. But for instance, Breidalsheidi isn't the best one in the west-northern area and has an actual bad surface. Hrafn, more in the south, is a better gravel road for this mountain. Modrudalsfjällgardar is also a bad path and more, is completely excentred from the main road R1. One has too choose between the cliffs of Halfdan and the beautiful pass of Kleifaheidi to take its place. The other five ones are wellknown climbs. Hellisheidi is gravelled but a monument in the east-northern area. The southern side of Almana is crazy and well surfaced just like the end of the "old pass" (oddskard in icelandic language). Namaskard is short but a strong straight line and Oxnadalsheidi is a good show for what is the RI main road.

Si on va en Islande, on se doute bien qu'on ne part pas affronter de bonnes routes continentales bien revêtues. Pour montrer la réalité du terrain de jeu bigien islandais, ce pays nous pousse à conserver dans la liste des muletiers. Par exemple pourtant, le Breidadalshaidi n'est pas le meilleur muletier dans la zone montagneuse très fournie du nord-ouest et a un revêtement vraiment très mauvais. Hrafn, plus au sud, a un meilleur revêtement muletier et est plus pentu. Modrudalsfjällgardar est aussi un mauvais chemin de pierres , de plus perdu au mileiu des terres assez loin de la route principale R1. On hésiterait fortement entre les falaises du Halfdan et le merveilleux col du Kleifaheidi pour le remplacer. Les cinq autres pourraient être conservés car ce sont des ascensions bien connues du pays. Hellisheidi est muletier, oui, mais est un monument national du nord-est. Le versant sud de l'Almanaskard est assez fou et très bien revêtu exactement comme la fin de l'Oddskard (vieux col en islandais). Namaskard est une ligne droite impressionnante et l'öxnadalsheidi est bien représentatif de ce qu'est la R1 au nord du pays.
